Wise Living

Almost There!

See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Eph 5:15-16

Redeeming means "to buy up, ransom, rescue from loss, or improve opportunity." I like the word ransom to understand what this is word trying to tell us.

If we ransom the time it means we hold it hostage or captive and make time pay us what we want in exchange for our time. That’s a graphic picture for saying we make each moment count. We don’t give our time away easily. We don’t waste it. We exchanged each moment of our day for the best and highest value and benefit that we can get out of life.

If we were living wisely we would do that each and every day. When we observe that we are not exchanging our time for the best in life and we need to recognize it and see it for what it is.

How do we make each moment count? How do we redeem the time in our life? A top salesman in the United States at a 12 word model by which he lived. "I always do the most important thing possible at every given moment."

That’s a secular way of saying he redeemed the time everyday. He says in his book the most important thing may not be making the next sale. The most important thing might be to set down with his wife and watch the sunset. It might be to pay attention to his children that need his love as their father. What would your life look like if you redeemed every moment for the best and highest life could offer you in exchange for that time?
